What We Have and What’s Expected for the Week of June 16th

Nightshades are once again really taking over the summer produce situation with more tomatoes (creole and heirloom), eggplant (Japanese and black beauty), potatoes and tons of peppers (banana, green and purple bell, cubanelle, jalapeño, red and orange picnic, poblano and shishito) all in stock or set to be delivered Tuesday and Wednesday!
We’re also expecting the first freestone peaches of the season (versus the clingstone varieties we’ve had this far), along with some nectarines, too! And we have plenty of blackberries and blueberries, with more on their way when those run out!
There’s a bunch of other late spring veggies to go with all that summer stuff and even one more week of lettuce from Compostella. They thought they were going to call it on the season last week, but had a resurgence of lettuce. Which calls for BLTs if you ask me! I do love basil on a BLT in place of lettuce, but if you want a traditional one, this is the week to make it with our local offerings — and honey oat bread from Bellegarde!
There’s also great burger makings, too with out grass-finshed beef and goat meat and pasture-raised ground pork and chicken, plus those tomatoes, various pickles and brioche buns!
And we finally did another Gulf seafood restock last week with more shrimp in all sizes, red snapper and red grouper filets, taco strips and collars and more. We also got more bone broth from Credo Farms. It’s not exactly broth season, but y’all do still seem to go through it in the summer, especially the pet bone broth!
We’re restocking Feliciana’s Best Dairy Tuesday and Southern Maids goat dairy Wednesday as usual and more eggs from both the Little Brown Egg Farm and our own Local Cooling Farms eggs are coming Tuesday, too.
Gingerbooch did a restock Saturday, too, so our beloved probiotic lemonade and limeades are back, along with three flavors of Gingerbooch. They are slowing down on veggie ferments for the summer, but we do have various kimchis and krauts available from them and from Resurrection Gardens and VEGGI Coop.
Plus there’s coffee and teas, stone-milled flours, peas, rice, grits and cornmeal, pickles, pepper jellies and fruit jams and preserves, seasonings, hot sauces, chili oil, tinctures, skin salves, honey and maple syrup and lots more. There’s also plenty of tofu and hummus and pesto will return on Thursday after Nur’s Kitchen was off for a week.
