New Pork Steaks, Lots of Ground Beef, Turmeric Products, Peppers, Eggplant, Okra & Mushrooms, Hummus, Eggs & More!

What We Have and What’s Expected for the Week of July 20th

Place Your Orders Here!

We did yet another pork and beef restock from our rental freezer warehouse on Friday and we have some new pork steaks in stock. These are cut from the shoulder, so they’re a little more marbled than pork chops with big flavor. You can pan sear, grill or slow cook and smother. We got them cut because we already have plenty of roasts back in stock, along with pork stew meat, which is also cut from the shoulder, and plenty of sausages, too. We hope you give them a try!

We also stocked up on ground beef, briskets, tri tip, tenderized round steaks, short ribs and osso bucco shanks, but we are low on some other beef cuts until we process again in September.

In the produce realm, concern about the Cyclospora parasite outbreak remains high and so does demand for salad greens, especially lettuce!

But unfortunately lettuce is just not all that abundant this time of year. It'll pick up more as it (eventually) starts cooling off.

Some of the farms we source from are on their summer breaks and/or have a skeleton crew harvesting a few heat-loving crops each week.

We're lucky to have Jason Miller at Homegrown in Folsom growing salad greens under shade cloth in high tunnels through the summer, but there's a lot more arugula and mustard greens right now than lettuce! We sold out of almost everything we got last week and we’ll get more on Thursday as usual.

We do have a variety of microgreens from Rose Wagon Ranch, plus gourmet mushrooms, cucumbers, Fairy tale or Italian eggplant, okra, various peppers, summer squash, butternut squash, root veggies and more in the produce realm! And we expect more beefsteak, cherry and San Marzano tomatoes, plus cucumbers and zucchini, red cabbage and more peppers on Tuesday, too.

And we restocked from L4S Farms on Friday, too, meaning their beloved Golden Milk spice blend and both sizes of their Red Turmeric and Ginger Honey Bombs are back in stock, along with restocked salve, tinctures and more.

There's also now an egg recall in Louisiana, so expect interest in local eggs to spike and plan accordingly. Our hens are a bit hot and bothered right now and have declined in production, but we'll aim to work with our other egg producing farm pals if we sell out too quickly in the coming weeks.

Overall, all this has me reminded of COVID times and has me thinking about how fragile and scary the industrial food system can be. It's good to be in community with local farmers for all the joys of local food and in times like this, to avoid the pains of the conventional food system!

Plus there's several shapes of frozen pasta (more fresh coming on Tuesday), frozen brioche buns and pizza dough, pastured chicken, wild-foraged goat meat, Gulf seafood, a few sale dairy items, hummus, tofu, limited kombucha, rice, grits, stone-milled flour, jams and jellies and pickles and lots more.
